Another Best 9…

Normally, you post the best 9 images of the last year, but for those of you who have been observant, I did not manage to actually post nine images last year. My lack of posting happened for a multitude of reasons, but the most important ones are lack of time, lack of inspiration, and most importantly, the way Instagram handles creator images. There is very little incentive to post, and I prioritized going out and taking images over showing (off) those images.

In an effort to get back into things, I decided to post the nine images I like the most instead, and tell you a little about the images.

Photo 9 – I Want to Break Free
I had been shooting for a little while, but had never considered my self to be any more than an amateur. By accident, some people saw some of my photos, and convinced me I could do more. This image because the symbol of that for me.

Photo 8 – Cuttlefish (You lookin’ at me?)
My very first success. I took this photo back in 2009 in Curaçao and that year a friend of mine submitted this image to a photo competition on my behalf (and without me knowing). It actually scored very well, and I was named best up and coming underwater photographer.

Photo 7 – Soi Cowboy
Although not the easiest subject to photograph, the sex industry in Bangkok, this photo makes it on the list due to the sheer explosion of color. The rain actually helped a lot allowing for the reflections of the lights in the street.

Photo 6 – Red Sunrise
The first ever time I saw the sky in this color. I knew it could be red, but to see the entire sky being blood red was just breathtaking.

Photo 5 – Pretty in Pink
Pretty much the same as the previous explanation, but instead of red, it was pink. Simply stunning.

Photo 4 – Milky Way
The first (successful) image of the milky way I was able to capture. I made many, much better, images of the milky way since, but this first one still holds a very warm place in my heart. Also, this location no longer exists, and I will forever be sat about that.

Photo 3 – The Burn
This, again, is the same as photos 5 & 6. I expected a little color in the sky, but this lasted for over half an hour, and it just kept getting better and better. And it left me speechless for a long period after…

Photo 2 – Going Somewhere?
One of my most successful fine art photographs. This photo really does not mirror the frantic effort getting this image. The museum where this stairs is located was very busy, and I was constantly trying to take the image, but there were constantly people on the stairs. Eventually, I had to combine several images for the final result, but I am very proud of how the final image turned out.

Photo 1 – Forgotten
I still get melancholic when I see this image, or go to this location. Every so often I read my own caption, and it still gets to me. I like the image, but love the feeling the image gives me. I do not know, but hope you can feel just a little of what I feel from this image.

Most of these images are chosen on how they make me feel, and not based on how they look. They make me feel good, or in some cases sad, but they touch me. These are probably not my best images from a technical perspective, but what is an image when it is technically perfect, but does not touch you in any way?
