Each year the lavender fields of Valensole attract scores of tourists, and getting a photograph of the fields without anyone in it, is surprisingly hard (or requires a LOT of editing). Not so much when you go out there in the middle of the night. I literally only met one other person out there, and he was doing the exact same thing as I was.
At the end of June and the start of July the lavender fields are in full bloom, and the vistas are amazing! Because this usually coincides with the new moon phase, you can get incredible views of the milky way over the lavender fields if the weather is good, and if you are willing to get up waaay to early. 😉
Make sure you book your hotel early though, they sell out very quickly, so if you are planning to fly in make sure you find and book a hotel well in advance. There is no proper public transport as far as I am aware, so renting a car might also be something you want to consider.
This was my first serious attempt at shooting the milky way, and I think it turned out fairly well. I learned so much doing this that I hope next time around will turn out to be even better. I just booked my hotel for this year and maybe I will see you there as well!
Special shout-out to @brialexphoto who accompanied me last year. Check out his feed, he has some amazing shots!
I hope you enjoy my photos as much as I do. If you do, why not follow me on Instagram: @jackoleenders. It will help me out greatly! 😇
