My plan was to make a sunrise picture at Bolata Bay, a cute little protected bay a little bit north of Cape Kaliakra. As i was driving there, at 4:30 in the morning, all seemed well, I was able to see the moon and the stars, all looked perfect!
By the time I got there, about half an hour before sunset, a thick mist was roling in from the sea… I was just in time to see it envelop the breakwaters first, and then the rest of the bay.
I climbed the cliffs and walked around for a while, taking pictures hoping for some inspiration, but nothing really worked. After about 45 minutes, after the sun had risen a little, the fog lifted a little and birds started to come out of there hideouts.
At one point there was this one swallow who seemed just a little braver than the rest, and who dared to venture out just a little bit further than the rest, and he made for a very good model. He (or she) was extremely fast, but kept going out further and further, so I had a few opportunities to try and take a picture. This is the one I liked the most.
The title comes from my favorite Bulgarian word, and surprisingly the first real word I ever learned in Bulgarian: свобода. For those of us who cant read cyrilic (like me), it is pronounced svoboda and it means Freedom. I couldn’t think of a more appropriate title!
I hope you enjoy my photos as much as I do. If you do, why not follow me on Instagram: @jackoleenders. It will help me out greatly!
