The city of Geneva and it’s namesake, Geneva Lake are quite well know. Somehow not as well known are the other locations on this lake, of which this stunning castle is one of them. Literally on the opposite side of the lake you can find Chillon Castle, a stunning castle build over several centuries, with the foundation dating back to the 10th century. The strategic site this castle now occupies was probably already in use way before than, as objects dating back as far as to Roman times have been discovered there.
Over the years, it has been used for many things. It has been a summer home to the Counts of Savoy, it has been a munitions depot, and it even served as a prison for a while. Now it is one of the star attractions of the region and I can only recommend going there for a visit. When you do, please take the time and stay around for the sunset, because those can be breathtaking!
There is limited parking space available, so it is better to come by public transport. It has a bus stop, a train station and even a water taxi stop all within 500m of the castle.
I took this photo in the summer of ’18, back when I didn’t have an ND filter yet. And because this particular trip was completely unplanned I had not taken my tripod with me either. This image is a stack of 35 handheld shots ranging from 1/1600s to 1/10s.
I have been meaning to work on this photo for a long time now, but until recently I just didn’t know how to do it. Thanks to the situation we are all in now, and work being really slow this December, I finally took the time and tried a few things, and this is the end result. I hope you all like it.
Because of the photo stacking there are some weird things happening in this photo, who can find them…? 😎
I hope you enjoy my photos as much as I do. If you do, why not follow me on Instagram: @jackoleenders. It will help me out greatly!
