The first post of the year and what better way to start than wishing you all a happy new year? So… HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

I decided to start this year with a little bit of calm, last year has been chaotic enough, and we all deserve a little break (and for all of you nursing a little hangover, sorry for being so loud just now 😉).

I was out with Boris and Aleks, who were showing me some new spots, when we found this log, a full tree almost, washed ashore on a little beach in Varna called Hidden Beach.

Hidden Beach is a small beach a little bit east of the main Varna beaches. Hidden behind some rocks that were put there to protect the road from heavy weather and waves. I guess this is also where it gets it’s name from.

We were trying to capture the sunrise but the weather gods didn’t seem to like us much that day (or we just misread the forecast the day before)… So I started experimenting a little bit, trying to find an image that appealed to me. I wasn’t quite sure about this one while taking the shot, but when I came back home and looked at it again it started to grow on me.

What do you guys think, is it just my emotional connection with the photo, or is it actually not that bad?

There is ample parking space at Hidden Beach, but you have to climb over the rocks to get to the beach. Even at the height of tourist season you will mostly find locals there, who use it to escape the hordes of foreign and local tourist alike that descend on the city in the summer months.

There is an old metal staircase leading down to the beach, but time and salt water have done a number on this one, so I really recommend NOT using it!

I hope you enjoy my photos as much as I do. If you do, why not follow me on Instagram: @jackoleenders. It will help me out greatly!
