Time Stood Still

It has been almost a year, save a few days, since I took a good photo here, in this location, and the photos are almost identical. The pier is the same (no surprise there), but the boat is in the same place, and even the color of the sky and sunset are almost identical.

It’s not for lack of trying, it’s one of my favorite locations, and I visit it often, but the light is never with me (or I just don’t understand the sky here… ? ). I just know an even better picture can be captured here. Maybe it is the difficulty I experience here that keeps me coming back, or maybe it is just the beauty of the place. Whatever it is, I will probably take another almost identical picture here next year… ?

Although the small beaches on lake Varna are open to the public, the piers and most of the land around the lake is not, and I had very mixed reactions from the locals. From people showing me their photo’s and pointing me towards less obvious spots to people setting their dogs loose on me to try and scare me away.

Parking is pretty easy, there is a small parking lot at the fishing docks, and there is always space. From there you can just walk towards the many locations you can take pictures from.

There has been an uptick in photographers this year, and not all the locals seem particularly happy with this. Just keep this in mind when you visit this awesome spot.

Always make sure you are not trespassing, keep an eye on your surroundings, and ask someone where you aren’t sure. Once it is clear you are only there to take pictures, and not to vandalize anything, they will often loose interest.

I hope you enjoy my photos as much as I do. If you do, why not follow me on Instagram: @jackoleenders. It will help me out greatly!
