Lavender

Starting mid June lavender fields everywhere are luring in photographers from all over the world. I had the privilege of being able to visit the lavender fields of the French Provence. Of all the lavender fields these are definitely some of the most prestigious ones around.

For the Provence the lavender season lasts for about a month, starting around the midst of June and ending around the midst of July, with some local deviations based on weather and altitude.

This biggest obstacle to overcome when going out to photograph these magnificent fields are all the other photographers making the same picture as you are trying to make. This particular picture is the only one I was able to make where I didn’t have to edit out any other photographers. I went during the week and early in the morning to one of the lesser known spots, and I only had to share my spot with two other photographers, with another three a little further down the field.

Whether you bring a camera or not, visiting the Provence is definitely worth the trip. And if you have the chance, try to plan for lavender season, because the views are simply amazing! To catch the sunrise you have to get up early, but the sunset is at the perfect time. You can enjoy of full day of activities, and wind down watching the sun paint the lavender fields like the old masters of yesteryear!

I hope you enjoy my photos as much as I do. If you do, why not follow me on Instagram: @jackoleenders. It will help me out greatly!
