While I was doing some research on where I could take some nice photo’s I ran across the small village of Kazashko right on Lake Varna. Even though it has less than 350 inhabitants and pretty much no amenities it at least has a bus stop and a direct connection to Varna. In order to get there in time for the sunset I had to take the 2pm bus, not because the trip was very long but simply because there aren’t that many busses going that way.
The weather had not been very kind, and I only had gray skies the entire time I was there. Not ready to give up on this place just yet I went back a few days later, the last day of my stay in Varna. Unfortunately nothing but gray skies again.
About half an hour after the sun had set I decided to pack up and go home, when suddenly the sky started to clear up. In only a few minutes the clouds drifted away and the sky transformed into this beautiful reddish golden palette. It only lasted a few minutes before the light of the sun was completely gone but this little going away gift made me promis to come back to this place as soon as I could!
Although the small beaches on the lake are public, the jetties and most of the land around the lake is not, and I had very mixed reactions from the locals. From people showing me their photo’s and pointing me towards less obvious spots to people setting their dogs loose on me to try and scare me away.
Always make sure you are not trespassing and keep en eye on your surroundings, and ask when you are not sure.
Once it is clear you are only there to take pictures, and not to vandalize anything, they will mostly let you be.
I hope you enjoy my photos as much as I do. If you do, why not follow me on Instagram: @jackoleenders. It will help me out greatly!
